A crowd of 218 people registered and walked in the first Baraga County “Out of the Darkness” community walk

in downtown L’Anse Saturday morning, Sept. 13, 2014. The event brought awareness, education and comfort to

Pethtel loves a 10-foot stump!

A dying spruce tree in the yard of Ojibwa Community College’s Wabanung campus in L’Anse (the old hospital building) is quickly becoming a beautiful symbol of Native culture. Chainsaw wood-carving artist Rich Pethtel of Chassell put his  talents to work last week, creating a very meaningful and beautiful representation of spiritually powerful animals. Walk to prevent suicide September 13

Chances are frighteningly high you know someone who has committed suicide. Here, finally, is a way to help. An “Out of the  darkness Walk” will be held in Baraga County Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the L’Anse Waterfront Park. The walk will foster education, prevention and healing by bringing the problem to light and raising funds to help prevent suicide. Community dedicates new football field

“Who would have thunk?” Longtime L’Anse football coach Jerry Bugni issued that sentiment before a crowd gathered at the new L’Anse High School’s “Volunteer Field” dedication Monday, Aug. 25, 2014. Part of the L’Anse Sports Complex, a push was made to allow the Hornet football teams to play a the new facility this fall. However, the overall project began back in 2007 after the Linden Creek flooded its banks leaving the teams’ Mewadowbrook Field unusable.
